Dr. Bernadette Arakwiye Delivers Rwanda’s Vision for a Green Future
At the Africa Climate Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Rwanda highlighted its unwavering commitment to building a climate-resilient and sustainable future. Representing the nation, Dr. Bernadette Arakwiye, Minister of Environment, stressed the urgent need for Africa to unite in combating the growing impacts of climate change.

She emphasized that climate change is not only an environmental issue but also a serious threat to Africa’s social and economic progress. Rwanda has been pioneering initiatives in renewable energy, green mobility, and conservation, providing examples of how African countries can lead in sustainable development.
Dr. Arakwiye underscored the need for increased climate financing, urging developed nations to deliver on their pledges. She reminded the summit that Africa, despite contributing the least to global greenhouse gas emissions, bears the heaviest burden of climate impacts.
Rwanda also called for deeper cooperation among African nations to share resources, knowledge, and innovation.
The Minister stressed that through solidarity and collective effort, Africa can transform climate challenges into opportunities for inclusive growth.
Closing her remarks, Dr. Arakwiye reiterated Rwanda’s dedication to its Green Growth and Climate Resilience Strategy and its readiness to partner with African states and the international community to secure a sustainable future for generations to come.
