A Groundbreaking Initiative Towards Gender Equality

Launch of the Gender Data Lab:
KIGALI, RWANDA – April 3, 2024 – Today marks a historic moment in Rwanda’s commitment to gender equality with the official launch of the Gender Data Lab (GDL). Developed collaboratively by the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR), PARIS21, and the Gender Monitoring Office (GMO), the GDL represents a pioneering effort to revolutionize gender data collection, analysis, and utilization.
The launch event, held at the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda, brought together a diverse array of stakeholders, including government officials, experts, civil society representatives, and international partners. Attendees had the opportunity to witness the inception of the Gender Data Lab and contribute valuable insights into gender data needs and priorities.
UMUTONI Gatsinzi Nadine, the Chief Gender Monitor, emphasized the transformative potential of the Gender Data Lab. “The Gender Data Lab represents a crucial step forward in our efforts to bridge gender data gaps and create a more inclusive society,” Umutoni remarked. “By leveraging innovative approaches to data collection and analysis, we can ensure that policies are informed by evidence and responsive to the needs of all citizens.”
Representing the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda, Ivan Murenzi underscored the transformative potential of the Gender Data Lab. “By harnessing the power of data and technology,” Murenzi stated, “we aim to generate actionable insights that will drive meaningful change in the lives of women and girls across Rwanda.”
The Gender Data Lab will focus on developing sustainable data products that consolidate existing gender data sources and utilize advanced data science techniques to extract meaningful insights. By bridging the gap between data producers and users, the GDL promises to empower policymakers with the evidence they need to drive gender-responsive policies and programs.
As Rwanda continues to champion gender equality, the launch of the Gender Data Lab signals a new era of progress and innovation. By fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making, the GDL aims to pave the way for a more inclusive and equitable society, one data point at a time.
