Rwanda to Showcase Major Climate Action at COP30 in Brazil

Rwanda will participate in the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), taking place in Belém, Brazil, from 10 to 21 November 2025. The conference will bring together world leaders, researchers, and global partners to strengthen cooperation in addressing the impacts of climate change and protecting biodiversity.

Rwanda’s delegation, led by the Minister of Environment, Dr. Bernadette Arakwiye, will highlight the country’s policies and actions aimed at building a sustainable, green economy. Key highlights will include progress in implementing Rwanda’s new Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0), which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 53% by 2035.

Rwanda will also launch the National Environment and Development Forum, which will connect government and private investments to support environmental protection and sustainable development. In partnership with UNDP, the country will introduce a new Biodiversity Window under the Rwanda Green Fund to support projects that restore ecosystems and protect forests, water, and land.

Dr. Arakwiye said Rwanda is ready to show at COP30 that strong leadership and citizen engagement can turn international commitments into concrete actions. “Through our new climate strategy and green finance, we are building an inclusive economy that protects both people and the planet,” she said.

Faustin Munyazikwiye, Deputy Director of REMA and Rwanda’s Chief Negotiator at COP30, added that the conference will be important for explaining how international finance can help countries implement climate action. “Rwanda will push for reliable funding to support developing countries in recovery and resilience efforts against climate change impacts,” he said.

At COP30, Rwanda will also showcase its progress in implementing the Paris Agreement and engaging in the carbon market. The Rwandan pavilion will host discussions and exhibitions on green finance, private investment, and environmental innovations.

Rwanda is showing that it does not wait for others it is leading by example in building a sustainable, inclusive, and environmentally friendly economy, demonstrating that “international agreements can become real action.”and it is ready to guide this journey.
