Members of the LGBTQ community and Local authorities and local security officers who participated in the training workshop where they had the debate on sexual orientation and gender.
For the first time here in Rwanda, parents and members of the LBQ community (Lesbians, Bisexuals, and Queers) are having a formative debate on sexual orientation and gender identity where the LBQ community is demanding full equality from Rwandan society and their families to solve the problems of threat, stigma and discrimination and homophobia between members of the entire LGBTQ community and their family members.
Following the educational training and debate between parents and members of the LBQ, Alphonse Yambabariye from Kinyinya Sector, District of Gasabo in the city of Kigali claims to Rwandan society the full equal rights to total freedom of LGBTQ members in their families where they belong.
“During the educational training and debate between parents and LBQ members, I learned that the LBGBTQ community must demand full equality in their families, that is, standards that recognize and protect the dignity of all human beings to be totally free in their families,” said Alphonse Yambabariye.
Florence Kanyoni, the nurse at the Biryogo health center, said that the prevention of violence against LGBTQ people, the full recognition of families who have homosexual members – including equality in the use of health services at health centers.
“At home at the Biryogo health center we have seen that prevention of violence against LGBTQ people, full recognition of the LGBTQ community – including equality in the use of health services at health centers is necessary.” she said.
André Uwayezu, the coordinator of the “Family with Equal Rights” project funded by EGIDES through the Charlotte fund on Thursday, said why they did this project in which they had the debates on sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGIE) to advocate on the parents of LGBTQ girls and women who were stigmatized, hunted, discriminated against in their families so that they have peace in their families.
“We did this project to advocate on the parents of LBQ girls and women who were stigmatized, hunted, discriminated against in their families so that they would have peace in their families and stabilize the families who have resbian and bisexual children who were hunted in their families to wander in the cities.”
André added that after the debates and training 38 parents promised their children peace and security and asked them to return to the family and 42 said that they will help to advocate on other parents of girls and women members of the LBQ community.
In Kigali RIGHT FOR YOUNG FEMINIST has 42 members of the LBQ community and 74 beneficiaries. The project which aims to advocate on the parents of LGBTQ girls and women will reach 60 beneficiaries with the wish that these formative debates can happen even in all the provinces where the LGBTQ are found.
