30 Young Mothers Graduate with Vocational Skills Certificates to Build Better Futures
On April 24, 2026, Kura Organisation awarded certificates to 30 young mothers who successfully completed a six-month vocational training program in hairdressing, nail care, and beauty services.
This marked the 12th cohort of the organization’s initiative aimed at empowering vulnerable young mothers who had previously dropped out of school due to early pregnancy. The graduation ceremony served as an opportunity to showcase achievements and call for continued support to reach more girls in need.
The event took place in Kigali and was attended by government officials, representatives of faith-based organizations, partners, and parents. Speakers highlighted the organization’s vital role in improving the lives of young women and promoting self-reliance.
In his remarks, Ndayisaba Jean de Dieu, representing the Executive Secretary of Bumbogo Sector, commended the graduates for their determination to transform their lives and break away from harmful behaviors. He encouraged them to remain focused and continue striving for progress.
“Transformation is not only about the skills you have acquired, but also about how you apply them in your daily lives. Keep working hard and avoid anything that may take you backward,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the graduates, Irakoze Marie Rose expressed gratitude for the skills they had gained, including hairdressing, manicure, and pedicure, which now enable them to earn a living.
“We were living in very difficult conditions, but now we have hope for the future. We are earning income that helps us rebuild our lives and take care of our children,” she said.
She added that they are no longer influenced by negative peer pressure and thanked Kura Organisation for helping them regain confidence and change their mindset.
The founder and director of Kura Organisation, Nyirakinyana Chantal, popularly known as Mama Joy, was widely praised for her dedication to uplifting young mothers. The graduates described her as a caring figure who helped them move away from difficult circumstances and rebuild their lives.
Founded in 2013, Kura Organisation focuses on supporting disadvantaged young mothers by providing vocational training and mentorship aimed at mindset transformation and personal development.
The organization began its work in Busanza and later expanded to Masizi in Bumbogo Sector, gradually growing its reach with plans to extend to other regions as resources allow.
The six-month training program runs from Monday to Friday and covers practical skills such as hairdressing, nail care, beauty services, and previously tailoring.
Beyond vocational training, the organization also emphasizes moral values and spiritual growth. Each day begins with a session dedicated to prayer, worship, and learning the Word of God an approach that leaders say has significantly contributed to positive behavioral change among participants.
Although 54 students initially enrolled, 35 successfully completed the program after a practical internship that began on August 20, 2025, and ended in April 2026. Some participants dropped out due to various challenges, including difficult living conditions.
Leaders and partners were encouraged to continue supporting the initiative through ideas, prayers, materials, and financial contributions to help expand its impact.
Kura Organisation also announced plans to enroll new groups of young mothers, aiming to help them overcome despair and isolation while contributing meaningfully to national development.
The event concluded with a strong call for collective responsibility in empowering the girl child, building a society where every young woman has dignity, capability, and hope for the future.
